Gabe Sherrod’s 1,000th career point regained the lead for the
Perryville Panthers, who were locked in a back and forth battle with the
visiting Rising Sun Tigers. Ahead early, the Panthers kept pushing the ball to Sherrod
to get him the 26 points he needed to reach the millennium milestone and it
almost cost them the game. After the pivotal basket, Sherrod added in four more
points to lead all scorer’s with 30. The Panthers closed out Rising Sun with a
67-60 win. The Panther lead extended into double digits in the third quarter, but
Rising Sun's Nick Spangler and Brandon Aro poured in ten points each in the second half to
help Tigers claw their way back into the game.
The by-product of Rising Sun’s fight from a deficit to the lead was personal fouls, and lots of them. The Tigers ended the game with 25 fouls, three players with five each and Sherrod dropping twelve of his 30 points on free throws.
The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Panthers and moved them to (5-8) on the season, while the loss moved Rising Sun to a (4-12) record.
