Rising Sun Ladies Rout Havre de Grace At Home

     Senior night at Rising Sun High School meant the final home game for six varsity players. The Lady Tigers made the most of the evening, routing the visiting squad from Havre de Grace 52-24.

     Cecil Scene Player of the Week and starting guard Heather Lesniowski didn’t make a quiet departure on her last night before a home crowd. Knocking down 4 three-pointers, she led all scorers with 24 points. Senior Alyssa Henry also made it into double-digits with 11 points.

Cecil Scene Player of the Week - Heather Lesniowski

      Hopefully it is a sign of things to come for Cecil Scene, but the voting for the most recent Cecil Scene Player of the Week (sponsored by WXCY Radio) was intense.
     Throughout the voting period, both Rising Sun's Heather Lesniowski and North East's Lexi Stevens held leads in the voting. In the end, Lesniowski garnered 605 votes to Stevens' 512.
     Congratulations to Heather Lesniowski, who played her final home game at Rising Sun tonight.

Rising Sun Comeback Falls Short At Buzzer, Bo Manor Wins 70-68

     Rising Sun Tiger senior guard Andre Moore raced the length of the court with 5.3 seconds left, stopped just outside the three-point line and jumped to launch the shot that would complete a 17-point comeback against the Bohemia Manor Eagles at home on Senior Night. It wasn’t meant to be. Bo Manor defeated Rising Sun 70-68.

  Eagle Devon Smith trailed Moore and caught up with him just in time to block the potentially game-winning shot cleanly. Smith also led all scorers with 25 points on the night.

     Things were looking grim for the Tigers early. Their deficit peaked at 17 points twice and it appeared they might get trounced on their home court on Senior Night. Taking a page from Bohemia Manor, Rising Sun employed a full court press and half-court trap and starting slowly chipping away at the Eagle lead.

     Mostly behind the play of leading scorer Nolan Forrest, who knocked down three three-pointers in the third period, Rising Sun was able to cut 14 points off the Bo Manor  lead from the 6:45 mark to the end of third frame. Forrest scored 23 for the game.

Rising Sun Wrestlers Upend Fallston

     Rising Sun made the most of Senior Night as they upended visiting Fallston 42-33 to win their dual-meet and remain undefeated in divisional matches. The Tigers are now 8-2 on the year.

     The Tigers rode pins by Weston Lynn (at 126 lbs) and Anthony Cimarosi (at 152 lbs) coupled with an extra two wins by forfeit to secure their nine-point win.  Fallston’s Zach Cullison, a 2011 State Champion Wrestler at 119 pounds, also registered a pin at 132 pounds.

Sherrod Drops 30 To Eclipse 1,000 Point Mark, Lead Panthers Past Tigers

     Gabe Sherrod’s 1,000^th career point regained the lead for the Perryville Panthers, who were locked in a back and forth battle with the visiting Rising Sun Tigers. Ahead early, the Panthers kept pushing the ball to Sherrod to get him the 26 points he needed to reach the millennium milestone and it almost cost them the game. After the pivotal basket, Sherrod added in four more points to lead all scorer’s with 30. The Panthers closed out Rising Sun with a 67-60 win.  The Panther lead extended into double digits in the third quarter, but Rising Sun's Nick Spangler and Brandon Aro poured in ten points each in the second half to help Tigers claw their way back into the game.
     The by-product of Rising Sun’s fight from a deficit to the lead was personal fouls, and lots of them. The Tigers ended the game with 25 fouls, three players with five each and Sherrod dropping twelve of his 30 points on free throws.
     The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Panthers and moved them to (5-8) on the season, while the loss moved Rising Sun to a (4-12) record.

Eagles Soar Past Tigers 67-43 At Home

     Bohemia Manor opened up with five points right after the tip-off and never let up on the visiting Rising Sun Tigers.

     The Eagles kept pouring in three pointers and extending their lead. They headed into halftime with a 31-13 lead.

     Eagle Devon more led all scorers with 21 points, while Rising Sun guard Andre Moore threw in twenty to lead the Tigers.

Lady Tigers Pounce Perryvile 49-27 At Home

Led by Heather Lesniowski’s fifteen points and half-dozen steals, the Rising Sun Lady Tigers defeated the Perryville Panthers 49-27.  With the help of a swarming defense, a relentless press and a double-double by Alyssa Henry, the Lady Tigers were ahead from the tip-off to the final buzzer.  The Tigers were up by eleven points at halftime and continued to extend their lead in the second half.  The win allowed the Tigers to even their record at (5-5), while the Perryville Lady Panthers dropped to (3-4).

It's Tebow Time In Tiger Country

     It was "Tebow-Time" at center court after the Rising Sun Tigers fought through a double-digit deficit to score a 59-54 win against the North East Indians.
     The exchanges between Tiger and Indian faithful throughout the game was heated.  After Rising Sun had completed their comeback, students stormed the floor and and met at center court.

     Tiger guard Andre Moore led all scorers with 23 points, hitting three three-pointers early and knocking down 10 out of 11 free throws in the final quarter.

     North East senior guard Kendall Danglade scored 21 points to lead the visiting Indians.

Elkton Routs Rising Sun 83-64 On The Road

     Three numbers tell the story of the Elkton’s defeat of Rising Sun High School in boy basketball on Monday night – 83, 64 and 51.

     The first number is Elkton’s score, the second is Rising Sun’s score and the final number is the total number of fouls for both teams. Add in a several technical fouls on both sides and you get an idea how heated this matchup of Cecil County rivals was.

     Elkton built an early lead and spread the scoring around, with each scorer tallying six points in the second quarter. The Golden Elks went into halftime ahead of the Tigers 50-22.

     Rising Sun Tiger guard Andre Moore led all scorers with 26 points, but 26 team fouls and 2 technical fouls made overcoming the Golden Elk lead nearly impossible. Ramiell Taylor led Elkton in scoring with 21 points.

Lady Tiger's Defeat Lady Indian's In Overtime

     The pressure of full-court and half-court presses didn’t keep the North East Indians from erasing the host Rising Sun Tigers 12-point lead in regulation, but it did lead to a 53-49 win in overtime for the Lady Tigers.

     The second half charge from a double-digit deficit to a briefly held  lead was capped by an Emily Hammer jump shot in the final minutes. The jubilation didn’t last, as the Lady Tiger’s pounced on turnovers to force overtime.

     Led by senior Heather Lesniowski’s 15 points, the Lady Tiger’s jumped out to a quick lead in overtime and survived for the  4-point win.  The loss dropped the Indians to a 1-5 record, while the win moved the Tigers to a 4-3 record.
