Cecil Scene Player of the Week Cimarosi Tops State Wrestling Contingent

     Cecil Scene Player of the Week (sponsored by WXCY Radio) Anthony Cimorosi heads a contingent 18 deep from Cecil County who will compete in the 1A/2A Maryland State Wrestling Championships next weekend in College Park.

     Cimorosi, who earned All-American honors last summer, notched his 100th career win during this weekend's Maryland State Regional Tournament in Easton, Maryland.  The victory gave Cimorosi three straight UCBAC and East Region wrestling titles. Cimorosi hopes to add the one title to his resume he has yet to earn - State Champion. He finished second the last two years in the finals.

     Cimorosi isn't the only wrestler from Cecil Country headed to College Park in the 100 Win Club. Perryville's Amos "Buddy Harlan grabbed his 100th win earlier in the year during a match against Havre de Grace.

     Perryville and Rising Sun High Schools each placed five wrestlers in the group headed to College Park. Wrestlers earned the right to vie for a State Title by virtue of their Top-Four finishes at this weekend's East Region tournament. Cimorosi and Bohemia Manor's A.J. Jourdan were the only Cecil County wrestlers to win their weight class at Regionals. Here are all qualifiers by weight class.

Seven Cecil Wrestlers Claim UCBAC Titles, Earn Trips To Regionals

     Wrestlers from Cecil County schools positioned themselves for a banner day in the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference wrestling finals. Local grapplers were in a position to walk away with eleven of the 14 titles – the next step along the road to the State Championships on March 3^rd and 4^th in College Park.

     Seven Cecil wrestlers claimed first place and earned trips to next week’s Regional Tournament in Easton, Maryland. Rising Sun was also awarded a trophy for claiming the regular season UCBAC title.

Perryville Wrestlers Pin Their Way To 53-28 Win

     Perryville High School wrestlers won half of their matches by falls to defeat Havre de Grace High School 53-28 in their own gym Wednesday. Of the seven falls, Amos “Buddy” Harlan’s pin at 4:42 in the third period drew the great applause from the dozens of Panther parents, students and fans who made the trip across the Susquehanna for the matchup.  The win in the 138-pound class gave Buddy Harlan his 100^th career victory, putting him in rarified air for Perryville grapplers.

    The other wins by fall for the evening for Perryville were Corbin Porch (108), Justin Harrled (113), Chris Brown (120), Joe Antoshak (126), David Doring (170) and Jake Ritter (182).

Perryville Wrestler Chris Brown - Cecil Scene's Inaugural Player of the Week

     Perryville High School wrestler Chris Brown has earned Cecil Scene's Inaugural Player of the Week.  He edged out North East High hoopster Kendall Danglade by one vote to garner the honor.  Brown has numerous wins on the season, but the highest honor so far is a First Place last month in The Battle At The Bridge Invitational at Bohemia Manor High School last month.

Rising Sun Wrestlers Upend Fallston

     Rising Sun made the most of Senior Night as they upended visiting Fallston 42-33 to win their dual-meet and remain undefeated in divisional matches. The Tigers are now 8-2 on the year.

     The Tigers rode pins by Weston Lynn (at 126 lbs) and Anthony Cimarosi (at 152 lbs) coupled with an extra two wins by forfeit to secure their nine-point win.  Fallston’s Zach Cullison, a 2011 State Champion Wrestler at 119 pounds, also registered a pin at 132 pounds.

Five Cecil Wrestlers Take Home Titles "At The Bridge"

Cecil County wrestlers made a great showing in the 16^th Battle at the Bridge Invitational wrestling tournament at Bohemia Manor High School this weekend.  Of the fourteen weight classes, Cecil County wrestlers vied for eight titles and came away with five of them.

     In the overall team competition, Rising Sun finished third, highest for Cecil County squads, with Matoaca (N.J.) securing the title for this edition of the meet.

     Here are the results from match finals for the Battle at the Bridge:

- Rising Sun’s Jake Brown won by Decision at the 182 pound weight class final

- Elkton’s Msema Msackyi lost by a Fall in the 170 pound weight class final

- Rising Sun’s Lance Eveland won by Decision in the 160 pound weight class final

- Rising Sun’s Anthony Cimorosi won by a Fall in the 152 pound weight class final

- Perryville’s Amos Harlan won by a Fall over North East’s Paul Keeley in the 138 pound weight class final

- Perryville’s A.J. Brown lost by a Techicall Fall in the 126 pound weight class final

- Perryville’s Chris Brown won by Decision over Rising Sun’s Joe Juergens in the 113 pound weight class final

- Bohemia Manor’s Tyear Castle lost by Major Decision in the 106 pound weight class final

Team Competition - Final Standings

Sixteen Schools Meet At Bohemia Manor For 16th Wrestling Invitational

   The weekend of the Battle at the Bridge Invitational is a big one for Cecil County high school wrestling. Dozens of wrestlers, representing sixteen schools, from as far away as Virginia and New Jersey converged on host Bohemia Manor High School in Chesapeake City this Friday and Saturday to compete.

     The tournament, in its 16th Edition, offered a chance for the five schools from Cecil County to test their mettle against these rival schools.

     Many local wrestlers made it through pool play with a chance to vie for a meet championship, but no match was more anticipated or heated than the semi-final pairing of Elkton's Timmy Taylor and Rising Sun's Joe Jurgans.  Before a packed field house at Bohemia Manor, Jurgans tallied early takedowns and reversals to open up a large lead and came away with the win against the previosuly undefeated Taylor.

Perryville Loses To Patterson Mill On Tiebreaker

     With two wrestlers to go, the Perryville Panthers held a 36-24 lead and could only lose if they suffered two pins.  Minutes later, coaches and the referee were sorting out a 36-36 tie. After going to the third tie breaker, the Patterson Mill Huskies walked away with one extra point and the 37-36 victory.

     The match between Perryville and Patterson Mill was the feature matchup of the three-team meet. The host Elkton Golden Eagles also competed, but with only five wrestlers dressed could not compete for a victory against either rival.

     Behind early pins by Taylor Dimauro, wrestling at 113 pounds, and Chris Brown, wrestling at 120 pounds, the Panthers took an early lead. The Huskies clawed their way back into the match and sealed the victory with those back-to-back pins.


     Although they never had a chance to compete for a win, Elkton’s Timmy Taylor did pin his Patterson Mill foe for a victory.
